ZenWrist / Guide
2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse (Bing Wu). Tai Sui is a folk tradition about the year's governing deity — this guide explains what the tradition says, which signs folk lists mention, and how cinnabar fits in. Cultural background only: nothing here promises luck, wealth, or protection.

The Chinese zodiac runs on a twelve-year animal cycle, and each year also carries one of the five elements. 2026 pairs the Horse with the Fire element — the Bing Wu (丙午) year, commonly called the Fire Horse year. In folk custom the Horse stands for energy, speed, and forward motion, and red — the colour of fire — is the year's festive colour. That is why red cinnabar, the traditional red mineral, is so often talked about as 2026 approaches.
Tai Sui (太岁), also called the Grand Duke Jupiter, is a figure in Chinese folk tradition: a deity said to govern each year in turn. "Fan Tai Sui" (犯太岁) — literally "offending Tai Sui" — is the folk expression for being in a zodiac year, or a zodiac combination, that tradition considers difficult. In a Tai Sui year, folk custom suggests keeping a low profile, avoiding major risks, and wearing red — a red bracelet, a red cord, or a cinnabar piece — as a traditional gesture. All of this is cultural belief, not a scientifically established effect, and we describe it as tradition only.
Different sources list different signs, and there is no single authoritative list — any page that presents a "complete list" as settled fact is overstating it. What folk lists most commonly agree on:
| Sign | Why it appears in folk lists |
|---|---|
| Horse | 2026 is the Horse's own birth year (Ben Ming Nian, 本命年) — the sign most often mentioned |
| Rat | Traditionally said to clash with the Horse in the zodiac cycle — the second most commonly cited sign |
Some lists also name other signs, and the names vary from source to source. If your sign is not named above, that does not mean a particular source agrees — check the tradition you follow, and treat every list as folk custom, not a rule.
Red is the festive, protective colour of folk custom, and cinnabar is the traditional red mineral — that combination is why cinnabar bracelets are the usual choice in a zodiac year. Pieces people commonly pick for the year:

Cinnabar is mercury sulfide (HgS), stable at room temperature. Worn as jewellery on the skin it needs only ordinary care — but a few cautions matter:
We make no claim that cinnabar is "absolutely safe" in every situation, and we make no compliance statement for any specific market — read the full cinnabar safety guide before buying.

Yes, with ordinary cautions. HgS is stable at room temperature — keep it out of your mouth, away from high heat and flame, away from small children, and take it off if cracked.
