A Ping An Kou is a round disc with a hole in the middle — outer circle for heaven, inner circle for earth, hollow centre for qi to flow through. Its name means "peace buckle", and in Chinese tradition it is a wish for peace and wholeness. Symbolism only: it does not guarantee safety or good fortune.

The Ping An Kou (平安扣) is one of the oldest shapes in Chinese jewellery: a flat, round disc with a circular hole in the centre, like a wide ring. It is worn as a pendant on a cord, and buckle charms also appear on bracelets. The shape is deliberately simple — no carving is needed for the meaning to read, and the smooth, unbroken circle is the whole point.
| Part | Traditional explanation |
|---|---|
| Outer circle | Heaven (天) — the wide world around us |
| Inner circle | Earth (地) — the ground beneath us |
| Hollow centre | Open so qi (气) can flow through, rather than being blocked |
| Round, unbroken shape | Wholeness and continuity — nothing missing, nothing cut off |
Read together, the shape says: heaven and earth in balance, energy moving freely, life complete. That is why the buckle is traditionally given to wish someone peace — for a birthday, a new year, or a zodiac year such as the 2026 Fire Horse year. It is a symbolic wish, not a promise of protection.

Yes. The classic form is a pendant on a cord, but buckle charms also appear on bracelets — e.g. the silver 'Ping An' charm on #86.
Folk custom says the left wrist ("left-in, right-out"), but it is personal habit. Wear it on whichever wrist feels natural.
Dry wipe after wearing; never soak; no alcohol, chemicals, or ultrasonic cleaners; keep away from high heat. Store it separately.
